Open Access and Copyright Policy

UMRAN: Journal of Islamic and Civilisational Studies provides Open Access to all published content. Articles are available online immediately upon publication, free of charge, with no embargo period.

1) Copyright and publishing rights

Copyright remains with the author(s); UMRAN (Penerbit UTM Press, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia) is the original publisher.

By submitting and publishing in UMRAN, the author(s) grant the journal a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish the article and to edit, produce, reproduce, distribute, communicate, and display the work in all formats and media used by the journal (including the journal website, PDF/HTML, indexing services, and digital archiving).

Authors may reuse, share, and deposit the published work elsewhere at any time, provided that the original publication in UMRAN (including the DOI where available) is properly acknowledged.

2) Licensing and reuse (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0)

All articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) licence, which permits non-commercial sharing of the work in its original form, with proper attribution to the author(s) and the journal. No modifications, adaptations, or derivative works are permitted.

UMRAN adopts the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 licence to preserve the integrity and authoritative interpretation of scholarly works in Islamic and civilizational studies, particularly in areas involving normative, legal, and religious analysis.

3) Author self-archiving (repository policy)

UMRAN allows and encourages authors to deposit their work in personal websites and institutional or subject repositories:

  • Preprint (submitted version): may be shared at any time
  • Accepted manuscript (postprint): may be shared at any time
  • Version of Record (published PDF/HTML): may be shared at any time

When sharing, authors should include the full citation and a link to the article on the journal website (including the DOI, where available).

4) Publication fees

UMRAN charges no fees of any kind, including:

  • No submission fee
  • No article processing charges (APCs)
  • No publication fee

5) Third-party material

If an article includes third-party material (e.g., figures, tables, images, datasets) that is not covered by the article’s Creative Commons license, this will be clearly indicated in the article, and reuse may require permission from the original rights holder.
