Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy
Responsible Use of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in Manuscript Preparation
In recognition of the growing role of AI-assisted technologies in scholarly writing, UMRAN – Journal of Islamic and Civilizational Studies allows the use of such tools strictly to enhance manuscript readability, grammar, and language clarity. However, all use of AI must be transparent, limited, and responsible.
Authors are required to maintain full intellectual ownership of their work. AI tools may assist with language editing, but they must not be used to generate core content, conduct analysis, or replace scholarly interpretation. Manuscripts suspected of being substantially produced by AI may be subjected to editorial scrutiny, and the Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to reject submissions that compromise academic integrity.
To uphold ethical standards and transparency, authors must disclose any use of AI tools in a dedicated section titled:
Declaration of AI and AI-Assisted Technologies in the Writing Process
Example:
- “During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL] to [SPECIFY PURPOSE, e.g., improve grammar or spelling]. After using this tool, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take full responsibility for the final content.”
- ChatGPT (version 1.2025.032, OpenAI) was used ONLY to assist with language editing of this text.
This declaration is not required if AI tools were used solely for minor corrections such as spelling, formatting, or reference checks.
As part of our editorial workflow, UMRAN screens all submissions using Turnitin to ensure originality and identify potential over-reliance on automated content.
